We currently consider to replace our 140k miles engine and automatic tranny (2.1l waterboxer for ´87 Westy) with a rebuild powertrain. I have been talking to Boston Bob already, however to make an educated decision I would be glad to receive information and hints about alternative options. Is it e.g. possible to purchase a rebuild powertrain from VW of America or a VW dealership? Is there any place/shop/dealer/garage in reasonable distance from Detroit who would even do the removal and installation? Furthermore I am open for any offers for such powertrain, including the necessary replacement work or not. Finally - is it possible to install a Diesel instead? Have Diesels ever been sold in the U.S. and could I get the necessary permits for those (emission standards etc.)? Could I get a rebuild Diesel in exchange for a gas engine? Thanks, cheers Chris; Troy/Michigan www.knust-net.de -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net |
