A different kettle of fish entirely! We're talking about unexpected breakdowns, I thought. Cambelts are regular maintenance items, like oil & filters. Change your cambelt at recommended intervals and this should never happen. Cambelts are not failure-prone, and our 3 diesel Toyotas with belt-driven cams have done 1,200,000km (750 000mi) between them. The only failure was when we forgot to change a belt (and that was OUR fault), and that broke at way over the 120,000km recommended changepoint.
