Actually, both are needed. The golf/jetta has a prepump or transfer pump in the gas tank which delivers fuel at a modest pressure to the fuel reservoir and high pressure fuel pump module. The details are different for CIS, CIS-E and digifant implementations, but all are two pump systems. Use the vanagon pump to supply the golf fuel module.
