The front part of the 16" flares does attach to the door but I don't know how.

Can someone tell me how the front fender flares are attached to the 16" syncros. It appears that the forward piece attaches to the door and not to the fender/door jam. Is this correct? Did VW use rivets of bolts? Thanks for any info. Steve
