I doubt it. Enough 091s and 094s blow to indicate that they have trouble handling the stock Type 4 engine. And you put a powerful engine in with the intent of USING it, otherwise just put in a 36hp 1200, it'll bolt up.

Shouldn't have to wind the 3.3 Subaru up, and your Porsche-powered Vanagon certainly won't leave it (or a 290hp Legacy/WRX-powered van) behind!
