Hey Volks-

I've been doing some research for replacement tires for my vanagon as well. I'm gonna go with Cooper Trendsetter SE tires- 215/75R14. They're an economy tire rated for 40k miles, 2 steel plies tread and 1 sidewall and are rated for 1664 lbs at 35 lbs pressure. These are the same tires I had on my '91 Aerostar b.d.- (before deer) and are rather rugged. They'll handle the unpaved county and ranch roads out here in CO and will go over sharp rocks and 4 wheelin' type of terrain when needed. The last time I bought these was at a local independent tire store here in Delta and I paid $56 each which included mounting, balancing and valve stems. On the highway (they're rated for around 112 mph) they tend to be a little noisier due to their aggressive tread design but they are all season and also have a m&s rating.

On the Aerostar, before the Coopers, I ran Michelin X's exclusively. What convinced me to replace them was 6 flat tires on one side- 4 on the right front and 2 on the right rear. Also, the Michelins had a problem with these country roads. After, I replaced the Michs, not a single flat! What can I say...
