I think the Coopers are not a good choice. If you look at the info plate on your driver's side door, I suspect you will see that it recommends 40-48 psi on the rear tires, depending on size. Stick with those recommendations! From what I can tell, reinforced mainly means that it will handle higher pressures.

There are some passenger tires which will go over 35 psi, but there are more choices in the light truck sizes. Also, the Coopers will probably throw your speedometer and odometer off. Look on the bottom of your speedometer, it should say 805. That's the number of revolutions per mile. The closer to that, the more accurate your speedo will be. Any decent tire dealer can tell you what the figure is for their tires.

You don't have to spend big bucks, but get some that are designed to handle both the load and the pressure that the Vanagon needs. You will be safer in the long run.

There is a page devoted to this on the Vanagon.com site. Look under Info / Tires.

The Kirklands are 2-ply in the sidewall and go to 50 psig--just for your info--and are also $56, which includes mounting balancing, old tire disposal and free 5K rotations....

Hey Volks- I've been doing some research for replacement tires for my vanagon as well. I'm gonna go with Cooper Trendsetter SE tires- 215/75R14. They're an economy tire rated for 40k miles, 2 steel plies tread and 1 sidewall and are rated for 1664 lbs at 35 lbs pressure. These are the same tires I had on my '91 Aerostar b.d.- <snip>
