I mentioned in my earlier trip report that I had the clutch replaced in Missoula MT. While they had the tranny out, they discovered that the main shaft was scored where the pilot bearing rides. I saw it and it was. They said they could put it back as is, but it would just wear out the new plot bearing prematurely. So I had them get a new shaft from VW and install it. So naturally the clutch job took longer and cost more. Question is: How common is this and have others experienced similar wear? Thanks, Jerry |
