Manufacturers' rated pressures are usually set for what they believe people will consider comfortable. Which is normally rather less than ideal for handling. This will cause excessive sidewall flex, allowing the vehicle to yaw in corners. Also allowing more heat buildup, shortening tire life. On small cars I generally wind the tires up to about 32psi.
