Yes, the greater Austin area has some really fabulous parks -
Enchanted Rock, Pedernales Falls, Inks Lake, Lost Maples and Colorado
Bend to name a few. I tend to favor interesting hiking areas over
the Houston-Dallas minimal -landforms-with-Army-lakes parks and think
eastern and central texas have alot more to offer than the I-45
corrider parks. So how far are people willing to travel? I'd be up
to around 4 hours in any direction....maybe even a beach campout?
I've heard both Matagorda and Mustang Islands are nice. A good list
of all the parks can be found at the Texas Parks and Wildlife's
site...has lots of good info and pics:
