After my recent long trip, I've noticed the oil filler tube on my '90 Westy is leaking. I know it had a slight crack before, where the crimps are in the bend, but wasn't leaking. I think what may have started it is, after I got home there was a really noisy lifter on the right side, so I added 1/2 qt of Marvel Mystery Oil (it was already 1/2 low). That quieted the lifter and I then changed the oil and filter, but I think the solvent in the MMO also cleaned the crud out of the crack in the filler. Anyway, I can't see how to get at the upper nut where the filler tube is attached to the crankcase. Any ideas? Thanks, Jerry |
