I've only seen 3 or 4 vanagons in my neck of the woods. Don't know how many were driven by ex navy guys, though. BTW -- since you asked -- Yes, I actually used to own a Herreshoff wooden sloop. Kept in in the Vermilion Lagoons on Lake Erie.
