Having traveled the above route as far as Dallas, I can tell you driving through Alabama is boring, heavy traffic between ATL and Birmingham, and not particularly pleasant the rest of the way. I enjoyed stopping in Vicksburg, Miss. to visit the largest battlefield preserved of the War Between the States. In Louisiana, the roads were in good shape and smooth, and not much to see. Alot of driving through swampy forests. Miss. is kinda desolate in areas. Never traveled the other routes through the center of the nation. I would recommend one of those, and go through Kansas City, MO -- or maybe its the one in Kansas. (That always confuses me). One of those twin cities has more fountains than any other city in the world. Beautiful buildings on a stately hill. Would like to go back. I think Dave out there would know what I'm talking about, and might be able to recommend a good route. See if you get his attention on a post. HK
