It is a wonderful thing, isn't it? The Super Wal-Mart near me usually has one or two huge RVs parked in the lot. I always wondered if I'd get any sleep in my Westy amongst all the lights and the noise - the Wal Mart is open 24 hours a day. I'll get to try it June 1st when traveling from AL to MI.

Chris, '85 Westy.

About a year ago or so the Wall Street Journal ran an article about WalMart encouraging RVs to park in their lots. I once met a German guy staying in my local Wal-Mart's lot (spoke no English) who had brought his Vanagon over here to travel the US, Canada and Mexico; I live near the route to Yosemite which is where he was heading the next day. Got his film developed; showed me pictures of other buses and Vanagons he had photographed in Mexico; and bought a bunch of other supplies at WalMart, so I guess it's a great marketing strategy. Guy was from Duisburg (I think that's in the Ruhr) and he was quite excited about my van's Wolfsburg crest. I was really jealous of the guy because he had a turbodiesel; his camper conversion was odd looking and not Westfalia.

Are you serious? That's a brilliant marketing ploy. I had no idea. Are there any official advertisements or signs to that effect? My own ignorance never ceases to amaze me. : ) HK
