Subject: Re: Tires - how critical on non-Westy?
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Chris I am currently getting my project 1980 Westy ready for the road and replacing all the tires with Agilis 61s. I can say this about the tires that are coming off. 2 were Michelin MX series rated at 91 load (I think), but Westys need around a 97 load rating. Both had plenty of miles on them but were showing bubbles in the tread. About a 6-10 inch long section of the tread had bubbled up about a half inch from the rest of the tread. One was a Continental and had a bubble on the inside side wall. One Michelin "RainForce" MX series is in great condition. I forget what the load rating is one this one (maybe around 94). I will use it for my spare.

So armed with this info one can assume that if you dont want bubbles use the proper tires. You might not "die" but you could have a blowout. I almost went with the Kirkland (Costco) tires that have been mentioned in a thread. I bet they would be great for a non-Westy Vanagon.
