Personally I like the idea of a transverse mounted GM 3.8L V6 and auto trans. The only conversion pieces would be the driveshafts. I think one could mount the entire subframe from the Buick into a Vanagon. I guess just omit the lower control arms and other suspension bits tied to the subframe. My neighbors Buick Lesabre really launches hard for a big family sedan. The 3.8L would be very strong in a regular(light) vanagon.
