The K-Mar filters are actually made by Fram. Although many say they are no good, I have also used them without any problems. The 10w-30 is not the correct viscosity for the Vanagon engine, especially for warm climates. You should be using a 15w-50 or 20w-50. Since you are using synthetics, there is no reason to change your oil that often. Every 7,500 miles is sufficient. More than that you are wasting money.

Hey Tony -

I have used Castrol Synthetic for two years now, because of our extreme heat and cold. I had to make sure my engine didn't leak, so after new push rod tubes made the gradual switch. I use 10 w 30... I also use the K-mart filters called Penskie - they're made by Casrtol USA, and are $2.00 each. With all my engine does, I change oil every three months or so, and it turns out to be very affordable. That's what I do -

Good luck!
