It depends on the age of the laptop. If it's orange and black, it's gas plasma. It may also be an older passive matrix LCD, which isn't as crisp, sharp, or bright as the newer active matrix LCD screens used in laptops. They can't update as fast as modern laptop screens, so they are unsuitable for games or television. This is why Windows and Macs have a "cursor trails" option -- it helps make it possible to keep track of a fast-moving cursor on a slow screen.
