I was informed over the weekend around the campfire that it is not normal for the gearshifter to move when you let off the gas while driving...sign of mainshaft movement possibly from improper shimming. This news struck terror in my heart cause mine moves (a syncro). On the way home, i checked and it does indeed move about an inch (from front to rear, or rear to front) when i let off the gas in 4th gear on the highway. There does not seem to be movement in the lower gears when shifting through the gears from 1st to 4th, but I need to check the movement out more carefully. i am curious as to whether a little bit of movement is normal, or whether there should be none, or whether anyone can confirm that movement is symptomatic of a main shaft that is moving back and forth in the case doing damage that needs to be corrected ASAP.
