My wife, who is in germany at the moment - I am in canada, just bought a 1988 turbo diesel vanagon with high roof and reimo conversion. She paid $1000 usd. We have looked around at a lot of vanagons in germany in the past and saw a lot of rusted old high mileage junk. She looked at a 1988 TD syncro passenger van last week with 300,000 kms, 3rd engine for $2000, it had no options. For the most part, german vanagons seem to be very basic with no options. Air conditioning is non-existent, as is PW, PL, cruise. Cloth seats, diff lock and power steering are also not found on the majority. I have never seen a completely rust-free vanagon in germany, although you see them in the southern US states all the time. I think the best vanagons can be had in the US. Gary Lee |
