Subject: Cooling fan kills radio

I just want to know if anybody else out there has this experiance with their van. In my 82 former diesel everytime the cooling fan comes on the radio goes dead for half a second. I'm assuming that it is caused by a drop in voltage when the fan is first starting to move. I'm thinking of putting a big capacitor in the line to the radio to act as a temporary power source during these brief power dips. Any other ideas?
