Sounds like a problem I had w/ my Chevy (which btw is 4 sale) -- when the alternator was failing there wasn't enuf voltage to run the radio - it would cut out,,,,next the engine stopped running 'cause the engine computer needed at least 9.5 volts to function...so probably you are on the right track on the voltage drop problem - my vanagon doesn't do that when the fan runs and the radio is on...wondering if maybe others on the list have your problem - One Idea i have: perhaps the cooling fan is having bearings or other motor related problems causing it to draw too much current??? Speculation only - I'd check with others who have more experience with vanagons -I've only had mine like 2 weeks :)
