Subject: Removal of Pedals? A little help needed.
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I'm swapping a manual transmission (and required linkages) from a '84 Vanagon to a '86 Vanagon that has an automatic transmission.

All is going smoothly but I'm having trouble removing the brake/clutch pedal assembly and bracket from the manual transmission bus. It looks to me like this must be disassembled before it can be removed from the 84. Bentley says the "Instrument panel must be removed before the booster and bracket with pedal connected can be taken out" (p 46.10). The picture shows an automatic pedal assembly. On page 30.8 (for Syncro) Bentley says "For repairs on foot pedals, remove instrument panel." From this I assumed the manual trany pedal assembly could be pulled out in one piece from the top, once the instrument panel and instrument cluster were removed. It doesn't look like it will come out in one piece this way. I don't think it will go out the bottom either.

Does anyone who has done this have any suggestions. Do I have to take apart the pedal cluster to get it out?

Thanks in advance.
