Karl, At moment I am content with my 1.9 stock Vanagon engine, but--I saw list member Ron Bloomquist's Subie conversion & know he's pleased with it. The subaru engine fits right into the space. I was amazed how "right" it looked, once installed. There are obvious good reason for both the stock VW engine & the subaru conversion. Just depends on your purposes. I'm giving my van another two years to see how she does on her rebuilt engine. I've got 225,000 miles on the van & nearly 50,000 miles on the rebuild. If, after two more years, I find that I've put an inordianate amount of money into my van, I am *open* to the notion of a subaru conversion. Phaedra '85 Wolfs Westy Basecamp
