The last time I had to front the whole Lewboski it was to an attorney. What concerned me at the time, was if he was so sure he had everything under control, why couldn't he just bill me? He was smart enough to know that shit happens and things change, that's why. And, I was paying him for his smarts. So, perhaps someone running an i-net business with no real funding may be smart enough to realize the same thing. You, in effect are his banker. As his banker you share his risk. Unfortunately, you are not holding any collateral.
