The crossover pipe uses a 25mm yellow o-ring. You MUST use the correct part, since it's made of a very soft and flexible material. Also, make sure the crossover pipe is not pitted by corrosion, or bent out of round. Do not use gasket sealant on the o-ring. If it's gonna leak, gasket weal won't help.

You might be able to do the job with the AC in place, but I don't think so. It, at least, would be easier with it out of the way. The job is not difficult in a technical sense; just a PITA.
