I've read ken wilfey's posts regarding the tiico conversions and am left a bit confused. What do i need to use from my old wasserboxer engine on the tiico? see below regarding my concerns: 1) an oxygen sensor wiring harness isn't included? That seems silly. Oxygen sensor too. Not included? huh?>> SA engines don't use O2 Sensors. But ... <<2) will the standard vanagon mufflers work? Did you replace them because the old ones were in bad shape? I can see the appeal of a nice new muffler w/ a new engine. 3) what the difference in a muffler and tailpipe? 4) what is the muffler carrier? Are those the straps that hold the muffler out of the mud? difference between the strap and muffler carrier?>> The TiiCo uses a 2.1L Cat and muffler. Those of us with 1.9's will have to buy new 2.1 stuff. <<6) are the old injectors needed? or does it come w/ new ones?>> One of the oddities of the TiiCo is that it 'reuses' the wasserboxer injectors modified slightly with an additional o-ring. <<7) auto tranny pan and fill tube? (only for auto conversions)>> The layed over I-4 interferes with the tranny dip stick/fill tube so the Audi part is needed to put the fill tube on the other side. <<8) timing and co? Can i do this or will i need a s shop's assistance here? I'm a bit confused. So the TIICO is not a turn-key operation?? But more like an 'improved' long block?
Thanks Matthew Pollard>> Peter B has several photos of the kit on his website (TiiCO.com) along with some downloadable instructions. Peter posted a while back that they had managed to get a converted van through California's CARB Certification. The warranty only applies if you have the kit installed by an 'approved' shop -- he'll help you find one. I know of one conversion done locally. I'd like to check it out but suspect that Beekman is too busy cruising in his new play toy. Chuck '85 Wolfsburg Westy - 'Roland the Road Buffalo' |
