Subject: Re: Anyone have experience with selling / buying a van on eBay
motors?

Of the more than 100 deals I've done on eBay I've had two problems. Both were
related to buying vehicles.
User <Susakoh> had a Mercedes sedan which I successfully bid on. At the end
of the auction, he claimed that the price was all a huge mistake. He refused
to honor the auction. He said he did not know he was supposed to set a
reserve. Reported to eBay. Ebay wouldn't do anything other give him a slap on
the wrist. I filed a negative feedback. Too much trouble to sue. Other folks
who later tried to bid on the car when he tried to auction it again emailed
me first subsequent to reading the negative feedback. He never was able to
sell it. I like to think that my negative feedback had something to do with
that.
User <johnnybest> had a Vanagon for sale. I successfully bid on it. made
arrangements to pick it up. Found the vehicle completely different from the
description. Paperwork was not entirely legal. Vehicle was impossible to smog
in California in the present configuration. He had told me it had a smog
certificate. That turned out to be 5 years old when it used to have the
Wasserboxer. It was now air-cooled with a type 4 motor. He also signed the
title himself rather than the true owner. He said the true owner was
unavailable. We mutually terminated the transaction.
