Dress down the mating surfaces with a large flat file. You need flat surfaces to seal well and clamp the gaskets firmly.

Buy lots of 8 mm bolts. Get some a little longer and shorter than you think you might need. You will use them eventually. Consider getting stainless steel especially for the ones that are hard to get a wrench on.
