For an original installation, you can tell by the control systems -- Digijet (1.9l) has vacuum hoses to the distributor, Digifant (2.1l) does not. In general, an '85 model should be 1.9l. Also, again on an original installation, the 2.1l oxygen sensor is mounted in the CAT case, while the 1.9l sensor is mounted in the collector pipe on the left side of the engine. People have been known to put a 2.1l engine under a Digijet system, but the factory didn't.
