Second posting: My '84 Westy outside slider handle is broken. The 'pop' metal didn't hold up. Apparently this is a design flaw. No local salvage sources, all the early van handles are broken or gone. I have found a few newer ones, though. I bought one and would like to make it fit on my Westy. I have reviewed the archives to no avail. The newer one ('87) has a 'driver' head built in that inserts into the lock mechanism. The older ('84) one doesn't; its driver screws in from the inside. Can the new one be made to work? Can someone respond that has actually done this? I have the interior panel removed and the outer handle is off with its broken pieces removed. All else is in good working order. I can open the door from the inside...just the outer pop metal handle problem. I would like to get this back together before a planned trip this weekend. Many thanks in advance. -- Stephen Chillicothe OH |
