A: The "Muldoon" way (For ref to Muldoon, see Muir's Idiot Manual) crimp a female spade connector (The kind that fits the flat blade connectors that are all over your Vanagon electrical system) onto the end of a wire at least 3 feet long. Reach up ahead of the engine from the enginecompartment, above the engine on the right side until you find the starter. On the front end of the starter you will find a free blade connector right next to an occupied one. (there's only one that's free). Put your connector onto the free one.

To turn over the starter, touch the other end of the wire to the metal stud inside the black plastic box mounted on the fire-wall in the engine compartment, about two feet to the left of where you just put your arm a minute ago. (There are two clips on the lower side of the box to release the cover.

MAKE SURE THE VAN IS NOT IN GEAR FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are attempting to start the engine, make sure the ignition switch is in the RUN position first.
