yes, yes, and very much so yes!!!

The 914 IS a type 4 with better flywheel and much improved heads.

I once had a built up modestly 914 engine that I put into a loaf. Put a stump puller cam in, heads were mildly ported, with stock valves, dual 44 idf webers.

Man that was one way wicked fast bus. I had the tranny rebuilt with taller 4th, and differential. Cruized at 3500 rpm at 70 mph, got 25 to 30 mpg, and when I wanted to pass ANYONE, I dropped it into 3rd.

We were estimating that the engine had an easy 140 hp, with a FLAT torque curve from 1500 all the way to 5000 rpm.

Damn I miss that engine.

But now I have heat and an '89 Syncro.

The Syncro handles MUCH better, just need to do a lilly to bump the power up a bit.
