Subject: Shade Tree Gas Tank vent repair?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

A man wh shall remain nameless, told me his solution to the vanagon gas tank Y-pipe replacement the other day and wondered if this method had been tried by anyone else.

He approximated where the gromets went into the tank, and then took a hole saw and drilled through the flooring of the van, for top side access. Made it a very quicki and painless fix. He added a few tabs under the hole, kept the old steel discs and sheetmetal screwed the discs back in place and siliconed any gap left. Is this the epitomy of Arkansas ShadeTree Mechanics, or is this guy on to something? Forgot to ask whit diameter hole he drilled, but I'll let the list folk decide if it's worth asking him.
