Subject: Has anyone removed a/c systems in 84ish Westies?
Content-Type: text/plain

Listees -

During my water pump replacement I removed the discharged a/c compressor. i would like to know from anyone who has done this, what loose ends need attention? First off, I'd like to shut down any hot wires. How is this done? I have heard that if switched on I could blow a fuse or something related. The wire that used to go to the compressor lives inside of a plastic housing, so I think its fairly safe.

After taking care of electrical matters what about hose removal? Perhaps I'll bypass that as it looks like a lot of trouble for little benefit, unless it's a cinch to do. Next what I'd like to do is turn the overhead a/c blower/vent compartment into a storage compartment. I have an 84 westy. Would a stock overhead storage door fit in place of the a/c unit? If not I guess the alternative would be to measure and build a door. I think my vanagon will like this change to a lighter load. A/c is not necessary here in Humboldt County, Ca on the coast where summer temps peak at 75.

Thanks,
