Mike,

All I can do is commiserate with you and say I don't know. The same symptom cropped up for me last year halfway into our vacation trip (of course!). I had just pulled away from a rest stop thinking how well the van was running. When I floored it quickly, the engine cut out and the tach dropped to zero. As soon as I backed off the throttle all was well. I could replicate this behavior at will by stopping on the throttle, but gradually feeding in the throttle did not cause any problems right to the redline. I pulled over and with the engine unloaded, the symptom would not show up. I also jiggled every conductor in the engine bay vainly trying to provoke the cutting out. I could find nothing and ever since the van has not repeated the cutting out. Because the tach dropped like a rock to zip, I figure it must be an ignition conductor going to ground . . . somewhere.

Rich
