Ken,

Coincidentally, I had just gone over the engine with a tune up and that was one thing I adjusted. The cutting out I described was not a degradation of performance or driveability, instead it was as if the plug had been pulled abruptly. Also, since the cutting out did not occur when I took the throttle to the floor more gradually, I suspect a wire was in a strain somewhere only to short or open when the engine was jerked around by the throttle.
