If you don't have a Bentley, plunk down the cash. Likewise, a multimeter is essential. The first thing I'd do is to disconnect the fuel injection wiring from the computer. Once you have that off, the Bentley has the appropriate values for all of the sensors relevant to Digifant. Many neophytes (I did it when I got started) just start replacing everything and hoping for a miracle. Just take your time and break it down into parts.

With that done, you still need to look at your fuel delivery and vacuum. The computer will do its best to compensate for incorrect fuel delivery and 'false' air (vacuum leaks), but this is often not good enough. Fixing these problems is simple, but time consuming and often dirty.

I don't know what your first post was, because it is not in this 'thread'. I have 2 Jettas which use Digifant (my Westy uses Digijet, which is more like your '82's system with some additional sensors), so if you post your problem again, I'll have at it.
