<< Living in Bismarck, ND, as I do, we see an occasional hail storm come through. My Chevy Malibu was pretty much totaled last Saturday night but the Vanagon escaped with only a few roof dents, which you can't see unless ou are 7'6" tall. >>

I didn't put this on the bullshit analyzer yet, but my brother-in-law, who hails from sunny Fort Worth/Dallas and who is no stranger to hail damage, claims that shops routinely pop out half dollar sized hail dings by letting the car sit in the sun until it is good and hot, then rubbing an ice cube on the dent. Now, two things to consider: just how hot can a body panel get in the relentless Texan sun and is my brother-in-law any less full of it than anyone else's.
