Subject: A/C Temp Switch Question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I've been trying for a long time to track down a gremlin (or two) in the A/C of my 1986 Syncro GL. The coolant was evacuated and recharged and holds its charge fine, so that's not an issue. Problem is that when I turn the temperature switch on sometimes the compressor comes on and sometimes it doesn't. A couple weeks ago the compressor kicked in as soon as I turned the temp switch on but even after the van got really cold inside the compressor couldn't cycle off -- even with the switch at its lowest setting. So, we replaced the switch since all the other relays and such were okay, but it still doesn't come on or cycle on/off like it should. Now, here's the weird thing I just discovered over the weekend: If I turn the temp switch all the way on then turn it a bit more (past it's highest setting), the compressor kicks in! Is this some hidden force-the-compressor-on function of the switch that I didn't know about? Anyone have any idea what might be causing me these troubles? Thanks very much in advance.
