As we discussed at the drive-in last time, the 3rd Sunday of each month
is Mondo Movie Nite and this month's movies promise to fulfill that need
for speed all of us VW drivers have but can't get!!!
Plan again will be to meet at 6:30 PM, June 17 at EL MEXICANO on Moreland
Avenue, (about 1 mile north of the drive-in and about 2 miles south of
I-20) to eat and then we will caravan to the movie. If you can't join us
there, meet us at the movie. Last month the movie drew a big crowd of
Mondo Movie fans and old car clubs and I would believe that this month
would be even larger with the period of these movies.

Nite this month! Sunday, June 17 at the Starlight Six Drive-In, feast
your eyeballs on these two asphalt-scorching classics!
1957's DRAGSTRIP GIRL concerns the coming-of-age of a lovely young lady
obsessed with fast cars and the boys, er, MEN who drive them! Fay Spain
is simply deadly in her nose-cone bra and platinum-blonde hair as she
takes John Ashley, a man whose hair rivals Jack Lord's, all the way to
the finish line! Legendary top-fuel drag racer Tommy Ivo is behind the
wheel in the racing scenes, and this white-knuckle drama also features
everyone's favorite Bat-psycho, The Riddler himself (Jim who?), Frank
Gorshin!!
Next up is the 1972 cult favorite TWO-LANE BLACKTOP, (bet you thought
you'd never see this one on the big screen!) a cross-country road race
with just enough artsiness and symbolism in addition to its high-octane
BALLS to warrant its frequent comparison to EASY RIDER, yet still reveal
that hippie biker-movie to be the hum-drum yawner it really is. You've
got Driver, (James Taylor, believe it or not) and Mechanic, (Beach Boy
Dennis Wilson, not hard to believe) in their hopped-up, stripped down '55
Chevy rod, racing Warren "Lighten Up, Francis" Oates in his
fresh-from-the-showroom, stock GTO cross-country to Washington, D.C.
Figure it out.
Of course, that's not all! We'll also feature the usual complement of
Warner Bros. cartoons, sleazy b-movie coming attractions trailers,
vintage intermission reels and more!!
All this for only SIX BUCKS A HEAD!!! It's Father's Day, so why not
bring the old man out for a night of hot-rod flicks? He brought you into
this world and saw fit to not take you out of it, (even when you deserved
it) so show some gratitude, junior!
Bring your lawn chairs, coolers and radios. (the soundtrack is broadcast
on both AM and FM bands) and get those classic cars out of the garage!!
There's only one place, rain or shine, to be in Atlanta June 17: under
the stars and among the fashionable go-getters at the Starlight Six
Drive-In Movie Theatres on Moreland Ave, five miles south of Little Five
Points!!!
The show starts at 9:15, and gates open at 8:00 -- get there early for
the pre-show mingling and fun!
Mondo Movie Nite returns the third Sunday of each month for the rest of
the summer. You've been warned: mark your calendars! (We've got some
very cool surprises in store for later this summer.)
