Yes, it stopped raining but I found out that I need a new gas tank and all new gas lines on my '84 Vanagon. The gas pump will not operate if there is a significant leak in the system because it needs a vacuum to pull against. So, I am going to replace the gas tank (it is badly corroded) and work at replacing all the rubber and plastic gas lines.

Thanks for all the helpful advice and concern I received from the list members.
