Exact same story here in Canada. Nobody knows anything, and I look (sound) like I come from Mars (of course my wife and daughter knew that already...) Urban Legend? Would it be the first one to come about?

BTW, Fao-Vé has revamped their tech. service web site (tech.vw.com) with search capability. Too bad those documents aren't pdf-ed yet.
