Hi Jay,

I use 4 qts and add another 10oz for the slightly larger diesel oil filter. The 10 oz was a measurement I did on a std and diesel oil filter. I filled both up with oil, measuring the quantity prior to filling, the difference was 10 oz.. I also fill the filter prior to installing. Actually it is not completely full, I add oil to the new filter until it begins to spill out at the angle that it must be held at to install it on the engine.

The foaming oil, concomitant with an increase in oil temp and reduction in oil pressure I have well documented on my engine(2.1l wbx). I even went so far as to add oil back in and verify that the oil temp went back up and oil pressure went down. I used a Mity-Vac handheld vacuum pump and a length of hose to suck it out of the crankcase oil fill tube.

Throughout this, the oil temp varied from ~210 to >260 deg f, the water temp gauge stayed one indicator needle width below the led. The normal oil level as indicated on the dipstick is about halfway between the low and high marks.

Currently I am using Shell Rotella T non-synthetic 10w40. This is the diesel service rated oil. Oil pressure is typically (engine rpm/1000) +(3 to 5) psi, i.e. 3500 rpm:38-40psi. The oil temp stays about 200-210.
