The only Opel GT I've seen was in Newfoundland, of all places. Your Opel 1.9 sounds like the Manta coupe.

Australia's only GM car, the Holden Commodore (all other "Holdens" made now are rebadged Opels or Isuzus) is heavily based on the big Opel. In fact all Commodores (late-70s to present) use the 70s Rekord floorpan, in later models widened. Drivetrains and suspensions were unique to Holden until the Opel IRS was recently introduced. Commodores are sold in South Africa and Saudi Arabia with Chevrolet badges...
