Just the other day I replaced my antenna (purchased from Rocky Mountain Motorworks) and I, too, could not screw the chrome collar onto the base. I studied the collar and determined that it had a slightly concave surface on the angular side. Since the van's nose is a flat surface where the antenna mates, I ground the collar down so that it was absolutely flat (keeping the angle, of course) and ground the top down a little, too. Then it fit. I don't know what they were thinking when they made it.
