Subject: RPM question

Hello! I've got a 1985 Westy with 195K on the motor but 6K on the fuel injectors. My max RPM is 5200-5300 before the engine "cuts out." Is this a VW thing where the computer shuts down the engine at about 5300 RPM? Sometimes I really need to rev this thing to get up to speed such as freeway on-ramps. Should it cut out at 5300 RPM and lose all power? I see no reason it shouldn't spin up to 6000 RPM. My souped slant 6 with an oversquare engine could turn 6300 RPM for a while and my bugs could hit 6500 in short bursts (OK, I did blow them up occasionally such as exploded cylinder walls . . . .). 6000 RPM in a souped bug was no problem. This thing seems to lose all power at 5200 -5300 RPM. Is this normal?
