I recently bought four used German Nato Issue 5-Gal. Metal Multi-Purpose Fuel Cans in O.D. Green. They came with a sticker telling you what color to paint them depending what you were going to put in them. I bought them from The Sportsman's Guide Mail Order Company- www.sportsmansguide.com for $9.97 each. I checked the website, and they are currently out of stock. The item number is wxo-43504.

Kragen's "the auto parts store" has the civilian version in red, but the bad news is they are priced at about $30.00 each plus you have to buy the spout for about $10.00 . They are the exact same European manufacture with the cool non-threaded cap.

Hope this helps,
