There are two measures of octane. The Research octane number and the Pump octane number. In north america the pumps list the average of these two numbers. In most of the rest of the world the (higher) Reserach octane number is shown on the pumps. Thus 87 octane in in north america is the same as 91 octane in Europe. -- Miguel
