Yes, i agree that you gotta watch out for cheap wimpy FLAPS hoses. But if you hit a few shops you may be able to find a stiffer hose that will suffice for the vacuums that these things pull. Now the big hoses (about 5/8") i use, uhm, heavy wall Tygon that was donated by the NSF and some, uhm, thick walled vacuum tube that again was donated by NSF.... perks of the job i guess. I had a hard time finding that size at the flaps and just resorted to the box of hoses in lab. back to CARS.
